Music Legend Zubeen Garg passed away in an unfortunate accident while he was at Singapore to perform at the Northeast Festival. His demise is an irreparable loss for Assam in many ways, as he was not only a celebrated musician but also a multifaceted social activist.
To pay tribute to him, Namrup College, under the initiative of the Department of Botany, organised a condolence function. The programme was hosted by Dr. Jayanta Sonowal, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Botany. It began with a lamp-lighting ceremony led by Dr. Durga Prasad Gogoi, Principal of Namrup College, followed by tributes from teachers and students.
Dr. Gogoi delivered a brief address highlighting Zubeen Garg’s musical journey and recited his poem "Water." He urged all present to remember Zubeen Garg through his timeless creations and announced that the Open Stage of Namrup College would henceforth be named in his honour.
Dr. Chabi Gogoi, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Assamese, also shared her heartfelt tribute and rendered one of Zubeen Garg’s songs in his memory.
