On 17th October 2025, a book donation programme was organised at Namrup College under the leadership of the Women Studies and Development Cell (WSDC) and the Central Library of Namrup College, in association with IIC, IQAC, and NCSU. The programme started at 9:00 a.m. in the morning assembly ground.
The programme was hosted by Ms. Parismita Bora, Librarian of Namrup College, who delivered a beautiful introductory speech. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Durga Prasad Gogoi, Principal of Namrup College. He gave a motivating speech, highlighting the necessity of book reading for the all-round development of an individual. He referred to the recently deceased Assamese cultural icon Dr. Zubeen Garg, who always valued book reading throughout his life. Dr. Garg’s thought-provoking and visionary idea was, "Without books, mankind cannot survive." The Principal advised everyone present at the programme to read more and more books for better prosperity in life. He also briefly discussed the fleeting nature of digital reading and its temporary impact on the mind.
Next, Dr. Chabi Gogoi, Director of WSDC and Head of the Assamese Department, delivered a speech with very valuable insights. She explained the necessity of printed books and compared their importance with digital books. She reminisced about the days when people were deeply absorbed in reading physical books. She advised the new generation to saturate their lives with books.
The book donation programme concluded with a symbolic donation of a book by Dr. Durga Prasad Gogoi to Dr. Chabi Gogoi, Director of WSDC.
