The Women Studies and Development Cell (WSDC) of Namrup College organized the International Women’s Day 2026 celebration on 7 March 2026 at Namrup College with great enthusiasm.
The programme began with the chorus song “Diya Ghurai Diya…” by Zubeen Garg, performed by the members of WSDC. Following the opening performance, Dr. Chabi Gogoi, Director of WSDC, delivered the welcome address and warmly greeted the guests and participants. The programme was formally inaugurated by Principal Dr. Durga Prasad Gogoi, who delivered the inaugural speech, highlighting the significance of celebrating International Women’s Day and promoting awareness about women’s well-being and empowerment.
On this special occasion, Dr. Monprativ Baruah, MD, Duliajan, and a multifaceted social activist, attended the programme as the Chief Guest. He delivered an insightful and engaging talk on “Basic Tips for a Healthy Lifestyle.” In his address, he emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle by following a few simple but essential habits. He explained that many diseases that appear around the age of 40 often originate from unhealthy lifestyle choices made during the age of 20. Similarly, if individuals fail to maintain a balanced lifestyle between the ages of 40 and 45, they may suffer from serious health problems during the age of 60–65. Therefore, he stressed that if one wishes to remain healthy in later life, preparation for that must begin much earlier.
Dr. Baruah also advised that reducing carbohydrate intake and increasing protein consumption can contribute significantly to a healthy lifestyle. He further cautioned that fatty liver disease is a serious condition that can lead to many other health complications if not addressed in time. Through his valuable health tips and practical advice, he successfully captured the attention and interest of the audience.
After the lecture programme, a food and local commodity selling mela was organized at the ground of Zubeen Garg Open Stage within the college campus. In this mela, female students actively participated by selling their own homemade food items, decorative materials, vegetables, pickles, and other locally prepared products. The initiative encouraged entrepreneurship and self-reliance among the students and created a lively and engaging atmosphere in the campus.
The programme was hosted by Ms. Antara Hazarika, Assistant Professor, who skillfully conducted the event. The programme was attended by Principal Dr. Durga Prasad Gogoi, IQAC Coordinator Dr. Jayanta Sonowal, faculty members, students, and non-teaching staff of Namrup College.
The event concluded at 2:00 PM with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Rijumoni Das, Assistant Professor, Department of Assamese, who expressed gratitude to the chief guest, organizers, and participants for making the programme successful.
