The third week of July 2026 witnessed one of the most devastating flood disasters in the recent history of Upper Assam. Several districts, including Charaideo, Sivasagar, and Jorhat, were severely affected by unprecedented flooding. The disaster caused extensive damage to life and property, leaving thousands of people homeless and struggling for survival. As of 25 July 2026, nearly 50 bodies had been recovered from different affected areas, and the death toll was expected to increase as rescue and recovery operations continued.
In response to this humanitarian crisis, the NCC and NSS Units of Namrup College organised a flood relief campaign on 25 July 2026 to support the flood-affected people. The initiative was carried out with the generous financial contributions of the college fraternity, reflecting the institution's commitment to social responsibility and community service.
The relief campaign was led by Dr. Ankur Nath, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, who coordinated the collection and distribution of essential relief materials for the affected families. Faculty members, students, and volunteers actively participated in the campaign, demonstrating unity, compassion, and dedication towards serving society during this critical time.
The Principal of Namrup College, Dr. D. P. Gogoi, extended his heartfelt appreciation and best wishes to the entire team for undertaking this noble humanitarian initiative. He lauded the collective efforts of the NCC and NSS volunteers, faculty members, and all contributors whose timely support brought hope and relief to many flood-affected families.
The flood relief campaign stands as a testament to Namrup College's enduring commitment to humanitarian values, community engagement, and service to society during times of crisis.
